Replacing Single or Multiple Teeth with Dental Implants

Replacing a Single Tooth with an Implant

Dental Implants Replacing Single or Multiple

Dental implants are a good choice for replacing a single tooth, and offer several clear advantages compared to dental bridges. Even the loss of a single tooth can destabilize the teeth adjacent or opposite so it is important to replace it. A dental implant is the only option that replaces single missing teeth while only having a positive effect on the remaining natural teeth.

The alternative option is to choose a bridge, but this is supported by crowns on the adjacent teeth, that are then attached to the replacement tooth. These teeth have to be ground down in order to create enough room for the crowns which could mean the removal of perfectly healthy tooth structure. Once the teeth have been ground down then they will need to be crowned for as long as they last. This option might be worth considering if the idea of having a dental implant doesn’t appeal and these teeth would benefit from being crowned, perhaps because they are damaged or decayed.

If you are considering a dental implant, it is best to do this soon after the natural tooth has been extracted, and before significant bone loss can occur. Implant placement will prevent bone loss, and the tooth can be restored without the need to cut down perfectly healthy teeth for a bridge. Single dental implants can be brushed and flossed like natural teeth, are very easy to look after and they can look amazingly natural.

Replacing Multiple Teeth with Dental Implants

Replacing multiple teeth with dental implants can be surprisingly affordable, as quite large bridges can be supported by relatively few dental implants. Where the missing teeth are all in the same area of the mouth, you do not need to replace each tooth with an individual dental implant.

Benefits of Choosing to Replace Multiple Teeth

The benefits of choosing to replace multiple teeth are similar to the benefits of replacing single teeth with dental implants. Bone loss will be halted around the dental implants, and this is a good solution when the remaining natural teeth are too weak to support a dental bridge. Dental implant bridges need to be kept clean and free from plaque and food, but there are plenty of special tools such as inter dental brushes that make it easy to clean around the implants and underneath the replacement single tooth which sits on the gum tissue.
